Kathryn Rem: ALA CARTE - Lake Pointe Grill opens on Toronto Road

LAKE POINTE GRILL, featuring Italian-style pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven, opened Thursday at 1386 Toronto Road.
Owners are Vic Lanzotti and Chris and Kathy Hanken, who also run the downtown restaurant SEBASTIAN’S.

“The pizza is unique to Springfield,” Chris Hanken said. “It’s designed after Neapolitan pizza. It’s very light. We use a four-ingredient dough with imported flour that won’t burn in an 800 to 900 degree oven. The result is an artisan-style pizza.” Varieties include Margherita (basil, Roma tomato, mozzarella, olive oil); steak, cremini and blue cheese; and Creole (Cajun-dusted shrimp).

Other menu items are chicken-fried lamb chops; burgers with ground bacon, beef and shallots; and smoked bacon-laced meatloaf stuffed with smoked Gouda and cheddar.
