Humphrey's Market - the flowers are in !!! (new parking lot too)

Humphrey's Market

Humphrey's Market shoppers will recognize the metal sheets in their parking lot.
Does anyone here know where those metal sheets came from and why they are used?
(Yes, there is a story there.)

The new parking lot at Humphrey's Market.
These pics were taken a day after the lot opened.

Update: (7/8/2007) The SJ-R featured Humphrey's Market in the July 5, 2007 edition of the Springfield Business News.
Humphrey's is planning on opening a pizza restaurant at the former Mr. Fresh's on S. 15th street. I hear the scheduled date for the grand opening is in September.

Quote from the publication "Pizza will be made from scratch and cooked in stone ovens. The pizza recipe will be a "little bit Chicago, a little bit New York and a little us - Springfield" Henry Jr. explains. There will also be pasta, salad, sandwiches and dessert."

(article available until next issue is published)

I hope they offer stuffed pizza and also whole wheat crust.

Update October, 2007.
Humphrey's Pizzeria is now open!

Our Opinion: Humphreys’ story is embodiment of American spirit ...

The opening date of THE BAKERY, 2028 S. 15th St., has been pushed back to mid-October.

That electric car at Washington Park

Ever since I caught a glance of the CVI Electric car that zips around Washington Park, I've wanted to get a better view of it.

I was taking pictures of the election signs at Washington Park and was delighted to see that the electric car owner parked nearby. I didn't get a chance to talk to him though.

You can click on a photo for a larger view.

The Nov 13, 2008 Illinois Times ran an article on this car.

Here is a video from the SJ-R regarding the above electric car.

There are some links to books about electric cars at the bottom of the page.

Check out the links and if you're interested in a title but not ready to buy the book, go to

and see if the Lincoln Library can lend you a copy.

I bet Jay Leno doesn't have one of these in his collection.

The electric cars get special EL license plates.
Is there a WU plate for these wind-up vehicles?

I wonder if this might be an "e-volk" ?

Be sure to check the water bowl for bird stuff before letting Fido quench his thirst.
