O’Malley on disabled list as postseason starts for AA Barons
The Cub's Mailbag feature wrote on 08/18/2008 ...
There was a guy who got called up to the Cubs to pitch in 2006 or maybe early '07. I think the Cubs were playing Houston. The guy pitched really well, but got hurt and I have not heard of him since. Could you shed some light on that guy?
-- Cody T., Elgin, IowaIt was O'Malley, and the game was Aug. 16, 2006, at Minute Maid Park. The Cubs won, 1-0, and O'Malley, called up from Triple-A Iowa that morning, threw eight shutout innings. He made one more start that season, but had to leave early because of problems with his shoulder. O'Malley was invited to Spring Training this year, but then released. This season, he was 4-3 in 20 games, including six starts, with the Birmingham Barons, but was placed on the disabled list on Aug. 13.

Somewhere upwards of around 150 Cubs minor leaguers report to Fitch Park at the beginning of March each year, as the "big league" club moves a half-mile up Center Street to HoHoKam Park and begins Cactus League play.

Ryan is the cover story of the July/August 2007 issue of Springfield's Own Magazine. I found this copy at the Lincoln Library Sangamon Valley Collection.
I haven't been able to find this publication online. I imagine that the SJ-R could sell you a copy if you really wanted on.
Ryan is mentioned in this 09/06/2007 article at cubs.com
Quote from article:
Soto arrived in Spring Training about 20 pounds lighter, having followed some nutrition advice from Cubs Minor League pitcher Ryan O'Malley and sticking to the same program Kerry Wood used.

Woo Hoo!
(Players on the DL show up with an icon next to their name on the 40 man roster.)
Above is an ad from the Illinois Times promoting Lincoln Land Community College.
Earlier this summer I was wondering who that fellow in the Cubs jersey was in this billboard.
He looked a little like Mark Prior, but that wasn't a match.
Now we know it is Cubs pitcher Ryan O'Malley.
This billboard is near some of the more drastic damage from the March tornados.
