Southwind Park will sponsor a free shrimp boil from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
today at the park site, Second Street and Southwind Road. (Map)

Construction is under way on many of the park's features, and those
attending the shrimp boil can view the status of the work..

Seafood for the shrimp boil is being donated by Robert's Seafood, and
Skeff Distributors has donated beverages.

The event is open to the public.

Although it is free, donations to the park would be welcome.

In case of rain, the event will be held inside the park's maintenance
supply building.

SJ-R.COM - Park board: Pavilion to be energy model

Published Friday, August 03, 2007

In addition to accommodating people with special needs, the future pavilion at Springfield’s Southwind Park is being heralded as a national model when it comes to environmental sustainability.

Plans for the building include geothermal heating and cooling, solar panels, wind turbines and the use of recycled construction materials wherever possible.

Supporters of the project say the pavilion will have lower utility costs, and they maintain it can be built within the existing budget.
