EMI Manufacturing Jacksonville Illinois

Today I went to the delete sale at EMI Distribution in Jacksonville, Illinois.

(Info and links regarding the 2008 Delete sale towards the bottom of this page.)

Photo from a previous delete sale below.

Years ago I toured EMI Manufacturing and Chordant Distribution.

Here are some photos from that day.

You can click on an image to get a larger view of the picture.

For a Beatles fan, touring the EMI plant is like a chocoholic getting to tour the Willy Wonka factory. EMI Manufacturing was originally built to keep up with the demand for Beatles albums back in the 60's.

At this point the cds are ready to be sent to a distribution facility such as Chordant / EMI-CMG.

Now if you're in Jacksonville on just the right day, you might get to meet some famous musicians.

JACKSONVILLE RECORDS FACTORY

"Capitol`s Jacksonville factory opened in the summer of 1965. According to Wayne Bridgewater, who began working at the plant a year after it opened and now serves at its manager, the factory was initially fitted with 48 album pressing machines transferred from Scranton and converted from manual to automatic. He recalls that, during the sixties, the plant primarily pressed Beatles records. There were times when 90% of production was devoted to the group. Jacksonville was, in many ways, "The house the Beatles built". By late 1966, the factory was pressing 50,000 albums per day. By the end of the decade, capacity had increased to 110,000 albums per day."

We continue to reposition our business to excel whatever the industry conditions. An important move to increase our flexibility is our recently announced decision to outsource the manufacture of our products in Europe and the United States. We have entered into long-term supply agreements with MediaMotion and Cinram International Inc. for the supply of CDs and DVDs. MediaMotion will manufacture product for those EMI entities currently serviced from our facility in Uden, The Netherlands, while a Cinram facility in the US will manufacture for those EMI companies that currently receive product from our Jacksonville, Illinois operations.

I'd love to hear from current and former employees at EMI and Chordant.
You're welcome to share your stories, explain the cd processes in these photos, etc.
Just use the comments option below.

The photos above show the Gaither Vocal Band (minus Mark Lowry - he missed the plane that day) and the manufacturing process of the WOW 1999 double cd.

Below are some links to the Gaither Vocal Band's music and the Wow 1999 album.

Discussions regarding the 2008 EMI Delete sale

Quote from post:

The annual EMI/Capitol Records Delete Sale will be held Wednesday,
November 5th, 2008 from 10am to 7pm in Jacksonville, Illinois.

For those of you who may not be familiar with this sale, here's how it works.

Bring a couple canned goods for the local food pantry for your admission.

Then browse a warehouse full of CDs (any CDs that EMI/Capitol Records
manufactures and distributes). Single CDs and DVDs are $3.

There are also boxed sets available for a considerably reduced price.

Everything for sale is new and sealed in original cases.
There is music available from every genre.

This is a cash only sale.

I wrote somewhere that to get there you'll turn right at the Steak and Shake.
I see that the old Steak and Shake (where the turn is) has closed down and a new one has opened in front of the Shopko. Don't turn at the new Steak and Shake.

These guys sounded great.
Hope they return.

Somewhere I have a picture of the butter cow...

These ladies were enjoying the fair.

Don't try this at home.

I really think that the major league baseball teams in Illinois are missing a fantastic public relations opportunity at the Illlinois State Fair. Imagine if the Chicago Cubs and White Sox had booths with retired players coaching kids (and adults) with their baseball skills. They could set up a batting cage and an autograph booth and perhaps even offer ticket sales there.
Central and Southern Illinois has a mix of fans of the out of state team St. Louis Cardinals. Offering state fair attendees a chance to meet and be coached by former Cubs and White Sox stars might encourage kids to follow an in-state team.
As it was, this poster was the only thing I saw that represented the Chicago Cubs at the Illinois State Fair. Sadly, this poster was not even available for sale. I'm told that they could've sold a lot had it been available for sale.

Powerlight Fest 2005
Powerlight deejay Greg Cooper was spotted taking pictures backstage at the festival.

(Powerlight Fest 2008 info at the end of this page.)

The above photo was taken by Greg Cooper from on the stage with the Supertones.

I don't understand why the local tv news crews don't sent a reporter to Powerlight on Sunday night (family night) at the fair. The Lincoln Stage is usually packed for the headliner band and it is quite an experience.

Meeting fans after the concert.

The folks minding the merchandise tables.

As a photographer, I really prefer wireless, hands free mikes.

Lead singer for the Supertones.

The trumpeteer for the Supertones was wearing a Michael W. Smith t-shirt in concert. MWS performed at the grandstand here several years ago.

Making sure everyone is moshing nice...

The Supertones always have the best t-shirts!

A fireworks display usually follows after Powerlight fest.
Hey Greg!
Look behind you!

Random Photos from the Illinois State Fair

2005

I don't know why this multi-legged critter caught my attention.

My brother in law is a trucker, so I photographed this shirt for him.
(A nicer person would just BUY him one, but noooooo.)

Kewl shoes!
Did anyone else notice these walking around the fair?

A rare person running at the state fair.

The Chicago media were excited to be in Central Illinois.

How much an hour do you think he's getting paid?

The ladies room is called a Judy?
What is the boy's room called?
(I didn't find out. Does anyone here know?)

"Don't call me Barney!"
